Free Mental Health Support for You – and Your Family

Annual Enrollment is a time to explore the robust benefits and programs Northrop Grumman offers to support you and your family. Even if you’re not electing medical, dental or vision coverage, it’s important to know there are additional benefits provided by Northrop Grumman at no cost to you. One invaluable resource is the NGCare Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

NGCare provides you and your family with up to eight free confidential counseling sessions per year, offering support for challenges with relationships, anxiety, stress, grief, life changes and more. This is a benefit you’re automatically enrolled in, with no cost, deductible or co-pay.

Eric, a Northrop Grumman manager of advanced manufacturing technology for the B-21, turned to NGCare when his child began suffering from inexplicable, excruciating headaches. The condition became so severe, his child, once a straight A student, had to withdraw from school during sophomore year, unable to concentrate on schoolwork.

Despite consulting with top pediatric neurologists at UCLA Children’s Medical Hospital, no one seemed to know what was causing the debilitating condition. They began to question if his child’s symptoms were real or imagined. Their fears deepened when their child confessed to having suicidal thoughts. To keep them safe, they opted for a residential group home for intensive psychological therapy.

“We felt very isolated. It was frustrating that some of the smartest people in the medical community couldn’t seem to help us,” Eric said. Desperate for answers and determined not to give up, Eric leveraged his expertise in advanced AI technologies and ran a simple, low-functioning AI Google search, which pointed to a rare condition called Eagle Syndrome. Specialists confirmed the diagnosis, and Eric’s child underwent a risky surgery to correct the condition.

Eric says he appreciated having the NGCare EAP. “We received free counseling sessions when we needed them pretty desperately.”

“We particularly loved the NGCare EAP as it gave us a fast and reliable pathway to a psychologist that could help address our concerns immediately. If you’re unhappy with a counselor, you can try a different one the following office visit. Each family member receives up to eight office (or virtual) visits, so it makes it easy to find a counselor you like and see how that relationship will go. This is especially important when you’re talking about a teenager and finding a good match for the support they needed in the area.”
