Make a Difference in Your Community

Community – that sense of belonging, trust and connectedness you feel with others that contributes to positive health and well-being. We all desire connection, but what can you do to advocate for and help strengthen your community?

Check out these five ways to think about community not only to get out of the house, socialize and combat boredom or loneliness, but to truly make a difference.

#1 Volunteerism

Volunteering is a great way to connect with others while developing leadership skills and giving back to the community. Visit the My Giving Portal to find volunteer events near you or create your own where employees can join you in a cause in which you’re passionate.

#2 Fundraisers and Drives

Another great way to support your community is by hosting a fundraiser or drive. Before you get started, view our company guidelines and make sure to submit a charitable activities request at least 30 days before the campaign begins.

In addition to local fundraising, the Corporate Citizenship department leads annual campaigns in the United States that employees across the enterprise can support. These fundraisers help organizations such as the United Services Organization (USO), Rise Against Hunger, and the American Cancer Society – where 23 Northrop Grumman teams have raised over $90,000 this year to help end cancer.

Our annual Wreaths Across America campaign launches around Veterans Day. Employees can sponsor wreaths to be placed on the graves of service members on Wreaths Across America Day, Dec. 16. Wreaths are $17 and Northrop Grumman will match donations up to $85,000. Over the past five years, employees have donated approximately 24,000 wreaths, raising $242,000!

#3 Workplace Giving

Through the Matching Gifts for Education program, the Northrop Grumman Foundation will match your personal charitable donations to qualifying education institutions and organizations, up to $2,500 total per year.

Another way to give back to the community is through ECHO workplace giving. ECHO allows employees to make ongoing payroll contributions to their preferred schools and charities throughout the year. When you join ECHO or increase your contributions, you’ll be entered into a quarterly drawing for a $1,000 charitable grant.

 #4 Mentoring

The opportunity to help others learn or grow personally is a great way to strengthen your community. At Northrop Grumman, we value creating meaningful connections and knowledge sharing. Here are mentoring programs you can explore:

#5 Community Service Grants

No matter how we give back to our community, the time we spend volunteering can pay off. Whether participating in a fundraiser or drive, or giving back to the community in other ways, don’t forget to log volunteer hours in the My Giving Portal.

Log just one volunteer hour and you’ll automatically be entered into a quarterly drawing for a $1,000 charitable grant. Once you’ve logged 40 hours, you’ll also qualify for a $500 Community Service Grant. Be sure to log volunteer hours by Dec. 31, 2023, to be eligible for a 2023 Community Service Grant.

Our core areas of giving include programs and partnerships that focus on: STEM education, military and veterans, health and human services, and the environment.
