When Systems Engineer Holly Forseth checks the news, she can’t help but pay attention to stories about family. As a working mom of two boys and co-chair of the Arizona chapter of NGFamily, she’s always looking to build community for employees who are supporting families at home. “I feel pretty strongly about giving our employees what they need for their lives outside of work, in addition to inside of work,” Holly said.
When Holly noticed an influx of stories about scams targeting older adults, she decided to organize a webinar to raise awareness among her NGFamily members. Holly connected with the Total Rewards team, who brought her into a conversation with the Fidelity team.
As a leading expert in financial education and retirement planning, Fidelity was the perfect partner. They planned and provided relevant content, including an overview of prevalent scams and red flags that employees could share with their families for awareness.
Awareness is essential in a time when scammers can manipulate individuals by impersonating businesses, authorities or even family members with digital tools like AI, often requesting gift cards or withdrawals from crypto ATMs. “They’ll have what sounds like their grandchild’s voice on the phone asking for money or saying they need help,” Holly explained. “And all these grandparents want to do is help their grandchild... they’re just trying to do what they think is right.”
Older adults are a common target, but anyone can fall victim to scams. “It's so hard to tell what’s real and what’s not. Being aware of what to look for is really the best reason to attend this webinar,” Holly said.
The webinar was such a success with Holly’s NGFamily chapter that Northrop Grumman is offering it for all employees. Join Fidelity on March 18 at noon or 3 p.m. ET as Kyle Fliehman, a certified fraud examiner, leads a discussion on financial exploitation among older adults.
