Finding a primary care physician (PCP) you trust is important for your health and well-being. Your PCP will know your health history best and can refer you to other doctors when you need more specialized care. Find a PCP who makes you feel comfortable. Here are a few tips to help in your search for a doctor:
Make sure your doctor is part of your plan. You’ll pay less out of pocket for your visits and preventive care is typically covered at 100%.
Find a doctor that meets your needs. Several different types of doctors can serve as a primary care doctor.
Ask for referrals. Talk with family and friends to see if they recommend a doctor they trust. Employees enrolled in an Anthem plan can also contact ConsumerMedical to help find the best doctors in their area and insurance network. Contact ConsumerMedical at 888-361-3944, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Eastern Time, or at myconsumermedical.com. To register, enter company code NGC.
Plan ahead. Do you want a doctor located close to your home or office? You can search for doctors by location on Anthem.com (for those employees with an Anthem plan) or KP.org (for employees with a Kaiser Permanente plan). You may also want to think about office hours, what hospital the doctor admits patients to, the languages they speak and if they use email or the internet to communicate with patients.
