September is Suicide Awareness Month

Suicidal thoughts, much like mental health conditions, can affect anyone regardless of age, gender or background. In fact, suicide is often the result of an untreated mental health condition. While suicidal thoughts are common, they should not be considered normal and often indicate serious underlying issues.

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month — a time to raise awareness of this stigmatized, and often taboo, topic. Our goal is to ensure that individuals, friends and families have access to the resources they need to discuss suicide prevention and to seek help. Check out the ComPsych’s World Suicide Prevention Toolkit for more resources and information.

Available nationwide, the new number to contact for mental health, substance use and suicide crises is 988. This new number will allow people to quickly connect with support during a crisis and is available 24/7.

Your NGCare ComPsych partner is available 24/7. For in-the-moment support and during a mental health crisis for employees, family and household members, please contact NGCare at 800-982-8161.
